Update

17 November 2008 · Leave a Comment

I realise I haven’t posted in a while, but I have been a bit busy as of late. I am working to complete my law school applications and have been working pretty long hours. I am flying to New York tomorrow for work and then I think I will take a short weekend trip to DC or Philly. Upon returning I need to buckle down and finish my applications, so don’t expect too many posts. Once these are finished however, it should pretty much be smooth sailing through the holidays and beyond. I’m looking forward to getting some use out of the old library card and switching to linux when I finally get a chance (maybe I’ll learn chinese and write a novel as well… haha). If I don’t get a chance to write before Thanksgiving, have a great holiday everyone!

One more thing: I found a pretty cool post with pictures of President Bush. It’s light-hearted approach is a good representation in my opinion. He was (and is) only one man; I hope people will finally realise this once he leaves the White House. Similarly, I hope our next president is not judged on the same standards. If we truly believe one man holds the course of the nation in his hands alone, the idea of America has escaped even ourselves; how could we then expect others to understand?

Soxx Win!!!

6 October 2008 · Leave a Comment

So… I haven’t posted in quite a while and have been getting abysmal hits in response to my lack of commitment…

Anyway, for those of you interested in my life, I have been disturbingly content (my recent complacency, as always, will inevitably lead to travel in the near future…). Work has recently shown the potential for a trip to TJ as well as an extended stay in New York. If neither of these come to fruition, expect a short holiday… maybe Austin or Florida…  In other news meaninglessness, I took the LSAT again last weekend and am now DONE with it; I am pretty sure I got the exact same score (150… not really, haha), but will wait a few weeks to find out. Also, the soxx are in the playoffs and they are through the first round!! They will be playing the Rays, which should be quite an interesting series considering the matchups this year and the inability of Boston to show Tampa that they are not the team they think they are =P.

As for music, I am still awaiting the Phoenix release, but have been going through my iTunes in the meantime to filter out the music that best suites me now. If you haven’t heard of Neimo, please take a listen:

Neimo – Lines

Cheers,

Work Life

23 September 2008 · Leave a Comment

Apparently the melancholy of office life has dulled my imagination and insight (or maybe just my ambition…) because I truly want to write something worthwhile, but nothing comes to mind.

To reiterate the effect that all of this work is having, here is a list of the typical ‘highlights’ of my day:

-First cup of coffee in the morning

-My daily yogurt

-My afternoon latte

Yeah… that’s about it.

Due for a Post

27 June 2008 · 1 Comment

For some reason I seem to be less productive at work on Fridays. As I listen to some j-pop on Last.fm and cruise through my feeds, work seems to be a marginal concern. Speaking of which, I posted my first round of photos from China on my Flickr (see the right navigation) in the Beijing set. There will be more to come, but for those who were waiting to see them, hopefully this will appease you. Here is a preview (random picture from my photostream):

Houhai (Beijing)

With any luck (or a simple change in attitude), once I leave work I will be more productive. I need to finish my writing on investment and development in China – my final three credits as a gopher (maybe if it is good I will post it). Once I finish the paper I will finally hand in all of my graduation materials, my bound thesis, and formally say goodbye to a University that gave me nothing in return for my academic achievements. This antipathy I feel towards the University is directed only at the system that failed to consider me worthy of its scholarship funds. This is not to say that I did not greatly enjoy my time as a student there. In fact, I feel like this flaw of the University was far overshadowed by the quality of professors I was able to study under – they have been quite inspirational and finally made me think and feel like a true academic and apply myself to my studies. I hope I can actually stay in contact with these individuals as they are some of the greatest minds I know.

Otherwise, summer has started off a little slow. I have only golfed once; although I golfed poorly, it was enjoyable since I was able to get out on the course when my dad came to visit. I’ve been to the lake a few times, but still no Calhoun Cookout in the books (unfortunately); this should hopefully change in the next week. July 4th is fast approaching and I have no idea what to do (I’ve never spent the fourth in the Cities). I am thinking about heading to Harriet Island for the Taste of Minnesota…

In other news, the universe seems to be punishing me for something recently. My computer was broken when I came back from Shanghai (I finally got it fixed yesterday – TechWarrior in Richfield did an awesome job!), Olympia’s (my car) battery was shot yesterday and I missed an entire day of work (which took away my overtime pay). I never figured that replacing her battery would be so difficult… Also I locked my keys in the car for the first (second?) time in my life… luckily the dollar magnetic key case I’ve had for four years was STILL attached to car’s frame. Still, Olympia is a champ and has weathered the storm. I will definitely be glad to get rid of the burden of a car when I move East though. She only needs to make it a little longer: the daily commute, maybe a trip back to Wisconsin (unless I can find cheap airfare this summer), and possibly a drive out East to look at law schools or to move my stuff. I am getting more excited about law school by the day – I had a chat with Northeastern just the other day. I hope I will be able to endure my gap year and save up for these expensive three years. Applications, retaking the LSAT, and the like should hopefully keep me sufficiently occupied. Otherwise I may need to pick up some classes at the University. I may not survive if I’m not busy.

That’s all for today, but the frequency of posts should be increasing now…

Failure…

13 June 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ni hao,

I have to keep this short as I am on my lunch break and have a lot of work to finish before I can leave for the weekend.

My grand intent to blog while on my trip in China was thwarted by the censors. Regardless of which computer/mobile device I tried to use, I could not load the post page. I will try to share some of thoughts in the next few weeks, but so far I have been busy since getting back. Furthermore, I came home to a blue screen of death on my home computer (which I still have no idea how to fix and don’t want to take it anywhere and have them looking through my information). Thus, for those of you wanting to find out about my time in China, either call me or wait; I will try to upload some photos to flickr, but since getting back I have been working a lot, struggling to re-adjust, and have not wanted to try doing it on my laptop – as it may explode from such a laborious task.

Otherwise things have pretty much returned to normal. I am working a lot and still have much to do with respect to school before I can technically graduate – although I actually have my degree already. I still need to finish a research paper on investment and development in China as well as prepare a report and presentation for the China Center on campus. After I wrap those things up in the next weeks, I will start studying for my second LSAT exam – need at least 170! All in all, this summer should be quite relaxing when compared to the several months before. I am hoping to get to the lake many times, as well as the golf course.
